With such a wealth of natural resource, the town of Whitby has been synonymous with Jet for hundreds, if not thousands, of years and during the latter half of the 19th century the manufacture of jewellery from locally minded Jet was one of Whitby's main industries.
Forming part of Whitby's heritage, as the 'Original Whitby Jet Shop', W Hamond stands at the top of Church Street, the oldest part of the town, from where it has remained a family run business since James Storr first opened its doors to the people of Victorian England in 1860.
